Movie 10: Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000)

Grand Theft Auto (GTA) is one of the most exciting genres of movies which has been a favorite of a wide range of audience ever since. And if you combine this terrific ingredient GTA with just adequate proportions of 50 jaw dropping cars, a terrific plot and create a story which revolves primarily around just one night, what you get is Gone in Sixty Seconds. It’s not the story which the real deal in case of this movie, it’s the actual execution, the way its shot and the way this movie makes you believe that if a GTA of this scale can happen, there’s no better way to do it than this.

Although a remake of a 1974 movie of the same name, Gone in Sixty Seconds directed by Domnic Sena and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer is one movie which keeps me glued to the screen every time I get a chance to watch it. The story of the movie is about Randall "Memphis" Raines played by Nicolas Cage of Bangkok Dangrous, Knowing, and Lord of War fame who was once the master car thief but is now leading a moderately happy, uncomplicated life when he is forced back to the world of he got out of six years ago. The sole reason which brings him back to the fore is his younger brother (played by Giovanni Ribisi of Perfect Stranger, Lost in Translation and Boiler Room fame), who fails to steal 50 cars and deliver the same to a Russian crime lord named Raymond Vincent Calitri (played by Christopher Eccleston of 28 Days Later..., TV Series Heroes fame). Randall doesn’t have any other option but to execute the ‘boost’. He assembles his old crew and realizes he’ll have to steal and deliver all 50 cars in one single night. If this wasn’t bad enough a cop named Det. Ronald Castleback (played by Delroy of Sahara, Domino and The One fame) keeps a close watch on Randall since he sniffs trouble but isn’t sure what’s about to happen.

So with such water tight setting, and only one night at hand how does the crew manage to steal the cars like 1999 Lexus LS 400, 2000 Porsche Boxster, 2000 and so on in just one single night. Do they even get through with it? What do they do? How do they do it?

Some of the other prominent characters of the movie are Sara 'Sway' Wayland played by Anjelina Jolie of The Bone Collector, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Original Sin fame and Otto Halliwell played by Robert Duvall of Four Christmases, Lucky You and John Q fame.
