Song 03: Aarambh

Name of the Song: Aarambh
Album: Gulaal (OST)
Artist: Rahul Ram
Music & Lyrics: Piyush Mishra
Release Date: February 2009
Language: Hindi

Gulaal is a forthcoming Hindi movie directed by Anurag Kashyap (of Black Friday, No Smoking & Dev.D fame). The movie is based on student politics set in Rajasthan and stars Kay Kay Menon (of Sarkar, Shaurya and Corporate fame), Jesse Randhawa (of Fashion and No Smoking fame), and Raja Chaudhary amongst others. The movie is being released after a delay of 5 years.

The song being mentioned in this post can easily be classified as the song with the maximum impact in the entire album. Titled 'Aarambh', its sung by Rahul Ram who is the lead singer of the Indian rock band called 'Indian Ocean'. The song is sung in an extremely peculiar manner which sounds almost like a discourse but enchanting chorus effortlessly manage to create a strong grip. And with a few repeats the lyrics and the music (both given by Piyush Mishra for this song and the entire soundtrack) start growing and enraptures the listener.

P.S.: The lyrics of the song Aarambh from the soundtrack of Gulaal sung by Rahul Ram are as follows:

Aarambh hai prachand
Bolein mastakon ke jhund
Aaj jung ki ghadi ki tum guhaar do

Aarambh hai prachand
Bolein mastakon ke jhund
Aaj jung ki ghadi ki tum guhaar do
Aan baan shaan
Yaa ki jaan ka ho daan
Aaj ek dhanush ke baan pe utaar do (Repeat Chorus)

Aarambh hai prachand

Man kare so pran de
Jo man kare so pran le
Wahi to ek sarv shaktimaan hai (Repeat Chorus)

Krishn ki pukaar hai ye
Bhaagwat ka saar hai
Ki yuddh hi to veer ka pramaan hai
Kaurawon ki bheed ho
Ya paandavon ka neer(d) ho
Jo lad sakaa hai wohi to mahaan hai

Jeet ki hawas nahi
Kisi pe koi vash nahi
Kya zindagi hai thokaron pe maar do
Maut ant hai nahi
Toh maut se bhi kyun darein
Ye jaake aasmaano mein dahaad do

Aarambh hai prachand
Bolein mastakon ke jhund
Aaj jung ki ghadi ki tum guhaar do
Aan baan shaan
Yaa ki jaan ka ho daan
Aaj ek dhanush ke baan pe utaar do

Aarambh hai prachand

Zindagi ho prem geet
Us kavi ko aaj tum nakaar do
Bheegti maso mein aaj
Phoolti ragon mein aaj
Aag ki lapat ka tum bhaghaar do

Aarambh hai prachand
Bolein mastakon ke jhund
Aaj jung ki ghadi ki tum guhaar do
Aan baan shaan
Ya ki jaan ka ho daan
Aaj ek dhanush ke baan pe utaar do (Chorus)

Aarambh hai prachand
Aarambh hai prachand
Aarambh hai prachand

Hai-Hai-Hai-Hai-Hai-Hai-Hai-Hai-Hai-Hai (fades)

Song 02: Hoshwalon Ko Kahabar Kya

Name of the Song: Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Kya
Album: Sarfarosh (OST)
Artist: Jagjit Singh
Release Date: 1999
Language: Hindi

Every community in India is believed to have its own cuisine, way of dressing, language, literature et al. Different religions, castes, regions have created a mixed bag of various kinds of art in form of fables, folklore, dances etc. Music has always been and remains an important part of Indian culture.  Accordingly, one form of music which has evolved from the rich heritage of Indian culture is called 'Ghazals'. Ghazals are poems most commonly filled with great emotions and sentiments. And these poems which become the lyrics of a song when sung as a ghazal are accentuated with the talent of a good ghazal singer. Emotions and incidents like love, sadness, romance, betrayal, death and many more are described and delivered in a completely new light and with great impact in ghazals. To know more about ghazals, please click here.

The song mentioned in this post is a ghazal sung by one of the most popular, talented and respected ghazal singers of India called Jagjit Singh. Jagjit SIngh has a string a of albums and some of the most loved ghazals this world has known. Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Kya is a romantic ghazal which speaks about the feelings a person deeply in love goes through. This song was featured in the soundtrack of a Hindi movie titled Sarfarosh which released in the year 1999. I've lost the number of times I've hear this song, but sometimes the same lyrics gives an absolutely new meaning to the song. That's the kind of impact that you can expect out of ghazals, just give it a try if you understand Hindi language. If you're one of those who abhors the idea of ghazals because they're extremely slow, I suggest you start with this one because there are very few chances of you going wrong with Jagjit Singh.

Song 01: Maahi (Rock With Me)

Name of the Song: Maahi (Rock With Me)
Album: Raaz - The Mystery Continues… (OST)
Artist: Toshi
Music: Sharib-Toshi
Lyrics: Sayeed Quadri
Release Date: Dec 2008
Language: Urdu

The rock version of the song Maahi featuring in the soundtrack of an upcoming Hindi movie called 'Raaz - The Mystery Continues… ' is one of the very few songs of the recent times which I fell in love with immediately. I had to listen to the song again after having it heard for the first time. The lyrics of the song are in Urdu and have been penned by 'Sayeed Quadri' who has done a fabulous job and 'Toshi' has gifted the song a mystical feel with his smooth vocals. The music by the duo Sharib-Toshi just fits in to make this song an instant hit. I feel although the original version of the song which is being played all over right now is catching attention, the rock version will get etched in everybody's memory for years to come. I suggest you hear the song right away if you haven't done so until now.
